TANK BATTLE 5 MILES FROM ARNHEM

SECOND ARMY MEETS STIFF OPPOSITION

AIRBORNE FORCES' GRIM FIGHT

ALL RESISTANCE ENDED AT BOULOGNE

The British Second Army is meeting strong opposition in its battle to reach Arnhem to relieve the British airborne troops, who are facing a critical situation. The nearest point to which the Second Army has penetrated is the village of Elst, five miles from Arnhem.

All orgnanised resistance in Boulogne has ended and the garrison commander and his staff have surrendered.

The Americans are consolidating their positions in the Siegfried line and Moselle zones, where enemy counter-attacks are increasing in frequency and power.
